GED Math Lab


Instructor: Sage Bryson
Course Description: A space for self-guided GED math prep, with an instructor available to provide guidance and answer questions.
Course Format: Lab 
Prerequisites: Math TABE Scale Score 500 or Greater AND Math GED Practice Test Score 145 or Less

Lexia Lab

Course Description: Improve your reading skills using a fun computer program with a teacher available to help out.

Core Concepts
Instructor: Meg Reynolds
Course Description: This course is for any student who has specific needs in regards to their writing skills and would benefit from in-person instruction. This includes skill building grammar and other writing conventions and support on voice portfolio or independent project work.
Course Format: Skill-Building/Lab

Computer Skills Basics
Instructor: Krissy Shelvey
Course Description: In this course students will explore the Google Suite of Applications.  This includes using Gmail, Google Docs and Slides, Meet, Classroom, Drive, and the calendar feature.  Students will also explore creating and using PDF documents. Time will be spent previewing some popular applications which may include Canva, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.    Computing protections such as internet safety, protecting personal information, and the importance of digital footprints will be scattered throughout the class.
Course Format: Skill-Building (Attendance required)
Prerequisites: Students need to have basic computer skills before joining the class.  This includes the ability to power their devices on/off, and use the keyboard and mouse.  Students should be able to open an internet browser and perform simple searches. *Students may schedule a time to meet with the instructor in advance to learn these basics before beginning the course.

Digital Literacy
Instructor: Melissa Grace
Course Description: This is a computer-based class where we will take our basic skills to the next level. Students will get to work in groups to design, plan, and create a website using Google Sites. They will get further experience with Google Sheets along with some other digital tools that will be helpful for this project. Students will get to do research for their website and learn some helpful skills when navigation the internet for information. This course should satisfy ADP Digital Literacy requirements and guidelines.
Course Format: ADP Course
Prerequisites: Basic computer skills (or equivalent class/experience) and basic knowledge of Google Suites (Gmail, Classroom, and Documents). Students must have access to a computer.

Book Club
Instructor: Luke Dougherty
Course Description: Read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, a best-selling novel about falling in love while managing a terminal illness. Engage in philosophical discussion with a small group of peers led by an instructor. This course is open to any Vermont community member age 16+ and VAL Students.
Course Format: Skill-Building (option for ADP credit with project approval)
